The human development index (HDI) is the index used by the United Nations to measure the progress of a country.
The previous indicators measured the economic development of a country, but HDI examines health, education and incomes
- Health or life expectancy at birth: in the HDI is measured using a minimum of 20 years and a maximum value of 83.57. So that, for example, the longevity component for a country where life expectancy at birth is 55 years will be 0.551.
- Education : Years of chooling for adult and expected years of schooling for children of school entering age.
- Wealth component (or decent standardof living) is measured by GNI per capita ($ PPP) instead of GDP per capita ($ PP). The minimum and maximum limits are $ 100 (PPP) and $ 8,.478 (PPP).
