In August, vehicle registrations in United States grew by 9.48% with respect to August of 1988. In total, 1,441,900 cars were registered and 15,341,900 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 2.17% less than the year before.

- Commercial vehicles sold: 478,400, 9.15% more than in August of 1988.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 963,500, which represents a figure of 9.65% more than in August of 1988.
