In July, vehicle registrations in United States fell by 1.82% with respect to July of 1988. In total, 1,279,100 cars were registered and 15,217,000 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 3.48% less than the year before.
The breakdown of car sales figures for the month of July is:
- Commercial vehicles sold: 442,000, 1.07% less than in July of 1988.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 837,100, which represents a figure of 2.21% less than in July of 1988.

As can be seen, the number of registrations per thousand residents has fallen in the last year. A drop in registrations generally indicates a fall in consumer confidence and, when it is sustained, a recession in the real economy.
