In April, vehicle registrations in United States fell by 3.74% with respect to April of 1987. In total, 1,333,500 cars were registered and 15,597,900 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 2.93% less than the year before.
The breakdown of car sales figures for the month of April is:
- Commercial vehicles sold: 438,400, 3.44% less than in April of 1987.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 895,100, which represents a figure of 3.89% less than in April of 1987.

With annual sales of 64.38 cars per 1,000 residents, 5.5 of them in the last month, United States, occupies pole position, which tells us that its population enjoys a high standard of living.
As can be seen, the number of registrations per thousand residents has fallen in the last year. A drop in registrations generally indicates a fall in consumer confidence and, when it is sustained, a recession in the real economy.
