In January, vehicle registrations in United States grew by 22.16% with respect to January of 1987. In total, 1,122,500 cars were registered and 15,366,000 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 4.1% less than the year before.

- Passenger cars regitrations: 757,200, which represents a figure of 21.78% more than in January of 1987.
