South Korea has a very high suicide rate

By 2016, suicides in South Korea increased by 421 people to at 13,092 suicides In 2016, on average 36 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

In South Korea there were 25.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.41 suicides per 100,000 people.

South Korea has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 13,092 recorded suicide cases in 2016, 9,243 were men suicides and 3,849 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 36 per 100,000 men and for women 15.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 356 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 36.8 suicides.
