In 2020 around 210 suicides occurred in South Africa, 220 less than in 2019.

South Africa reported 0.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.24 self-harm per 100.000 people.

South Africa has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 210 recorded suicide cases in 2020, 168 were men suicides and 42 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 0.6 per 100,000 men and for women 0.1 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in South Africa. However, in South Africa in 2020 there were there were 19,972 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 95.1 homicides per suicide.
