South Korea has a very high suicide rate

In 2020 occurred 13,195 suicides in South Korea. This year, 604 fewer people committed suicide than in 2019. In 2020, on average 36 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

South Korea had 25.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.27 suicides per 100,000 people.

South Korea has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 13,195 recorded suicide cases in 2020, 9,093 were men suicides and 4,102 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 35 per 100,000 men and for women 15.9 per 100,000 female In spite of this, it is the country with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 308 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 42.8 suicides.
