South Korea has a very high suicide rate

In 2021 around 13,352 suicides occurred in South Korea, 157 more than in 2020. In 2021, on average 37 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

South Korea reported 25.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.14 suicides per 100,000 people.

South Korea has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 13,352 recorded suicide cases in 2021, 9,193 were men suicides and 4,159 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 35.4 per 100,000 men and for women 16.1 per 100,000 female In spite of this, it is the country with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 270 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 49.5 suicides.
