Number of suicides falls in Singapore

In 2005 occurred 522 suicides in Singapore. This year, 26 fewer people committed suicide than in 2004. In Singapore, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Singapore had 12.23 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 522 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 350 were men suicides and 171 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.24 per 100,000 men and for women 8.13 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Singapore suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 21 homicides in Singapore, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 24.9 suicides.
