Number of suicides falls in Slovakia

In 2023 occurred 345 suicides in Slovakia. This year, 41 fewer people committed suicide than in 2022.

Slovakia had 6.36 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.11 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 345 recorded suicide cases in 2023, 292 were men suicides and 53 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.01 per 100,000 men and for women 1.91 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 62 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.6 suicides.
