Mexico - Intentional self-harm

In 2018 occurred 6,808 suicides in Mexico. This year, 249 more people committed suicide than in 2017. In 2018, on average 19 Mexicans committed suicide every day.

Mexico had 5.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 6,808 recorded suicide cases in 2018, 5,454 were men suicides and 1,253 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.9 per 100,000 men and for women 2 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Mexico. However, in Mexico in 2018 there were there were 36,685 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 5.4 homicides per suicide.
