Number of suicides falls in Moldova

In 2015 occurred 601 suicides in Moldova. This year, 60 fewer people committed suicide than in 2014. In Moldova, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Moldova had 16.91 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.51 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 601 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 504 were men suicides and 97 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 37.35 per 100,000 men and for women 6.53 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Moldova suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 189 homicides in Moldova, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.2 suicides.
