In 2016 around 6,370 suicides occurred in Mexico, 55 less than in 2015. In 2016, on average 17 Mexicans committed suicide every day.
Mexico reported 5.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.41 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 6,370 recorded suicide cases in 2016, 5,116 were men suicides and 1,173 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.5 per 100,000 men and for women 1.9 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Mexico. However, in Mexico in 2016 there were there were 24,559 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 3.9 homicides per suicide.
