Mexico - Intentional self-harm

By 2005, suicides in Mexico increased by 197 people to at 4,314 suicides In 2005, on average 12 Mexicans committed suicide every day.

In Mexico there were 4.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 4,314 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 3,571 were men suicides and 735 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.9 per 100,000 men and for women 1.4 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Mexico. However, in Mexico in 2005 there were there were 9,921 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.3 homicides per suicide.
