In 2004 around 4,117 suicides occurred in Mexico, 13 more than in 2003. In 2004, on average 11 Mexicans committed suicide every day.
Mexico reported 3.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.53 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 4,117 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 3,414 were men suicides and 678 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.7 per 100,000 men and for women 1.3 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Mexico. However, in Mexico in 2004 there were there were 9,329 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.3 homicides per suicide.
