There are 55 suicides per day in Japan

In 2018 around 20,031 suicides occurred in Japan, 434 less than in 2017. In 2018, on average 55 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan reported 15.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.42 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 20,031 recorded suicide cases in 2018, 13,851 were men suicides and 6,180 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.5 per 100,000 men and for women 9.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Japan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 334 homicides in Japan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 60 suicides.
