Japan had 23.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.
Japan has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 30,553 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 22,236 were men suicides and 8,317 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 35.7 per 100,000 men and for women 12.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Japan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 643 homicides in Japan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 47.5 suicides.
