In 2007 around 1,298 suicides occurred in Ghana, 14 less than in 2006. In 2007, on average 4 Ghanaians committed suicide every day.
Ghana reported 5.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 1,298 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 1,000 were men suicides and 298 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.47 per 100,000 men and for women 2.51 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ghana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 399 homicides in Ghana, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.3 suicides.
