In 2023 around 488 suicides occurred in Greece, 28 less than in 2022. In Greece, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Greece reported 4.61 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.12 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 488 recorded suicide cases in 2023, 401 were men suicides and 87 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.76 per 100,000 men and for women 1.58 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Greece suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 86 homicides in Greece, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.7 suicides.
