In 2018 around 2,869 suicides occurred in Colombia, 160 more than in 2017. In 2018, on average 8 Colombians committed suicide every day.

Colombia reported 5.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,869 recorded suicide cases in 2018, 2,356 were men suicides and 513 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.6 per 100,000 men and for women 2 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Colombia. However, in Colombia in 2018 there were there were 11,766 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 4.1 homicides per suicide.
