In 2016 around 1,155 suicides occurred in Sweden, 47 less than in 2015. In 2016, on average 3 Swedes committed suicide every day.

Sweden reported 11.49 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.41 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,155 recorded suicide cases in 2016, 787 were men suicides and 352 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.87 per 100,000 men and for women 7.09 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Sweden suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 106 homicides in Sweden, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 10.9 suicides.
