Number of suicides increases in Switzerland

In 2023 around 1,023 suicides occurred in Switzerland, 29 more than in 2022. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Switzerland reported 11.41 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.11 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,023 recorded suicide cases in 2023, 742 were men suicides and 281 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.67 per 100,000 men and for women 6.23 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Switzerland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 53 homicides in Switzerland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 19.3 suicides.
