In 2005 around 679 suicides occurred in Slovakia, 3 more than in 2004. In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Slovakia reported 12.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 679 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 584 were men suicides and 95 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.4 per 100,000 men and for women 3.4 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 93 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.3 suicides.
