Suicides increase in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

In 2005 occurred 10 suicides in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This year, 4 more people committed suicide than in 2004.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines had 8.89 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 10 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 8 were men suicides and 2 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.04 per 100,000 men and for women 2.86 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. However, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in 2005 there were there were 26 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.6 homicides per suicide.
