Suicides decreased in Panama

In 2005 around 234 suicides occurred in Panama, 27 less than in 2004.

Panama reported 6.98 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 234 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 202 were men suicides and 31 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.19 per 100,000 men and for women 1.91 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Panama. However, in Panama in 2005 there were there were 364 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.6 homicides per suicide.
