Number of suicides falls in Panama

In 2004 occurred 261 suicides in Panama. This year, 7 fewer people committed suicide than in 2003.

Panama had 7.95 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.53 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 261 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 218 were men suicides and 43 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.4 per 100,000 men and for women 2.68 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Panama. However, in Panama in 2004 there were there were 308 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.2 homicides per suicide.
