Number of suicides increases in Norway

In 2005 around 533 suicides occurred in Norway, 4 more than in 2004. In Norway, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Norway reported 11.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 533 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 360 were men suicides and 173 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.7 per 100,000 men and for women 7.4 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Norway suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 33 homicides in Norway, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 16.2 suicides.
