Suicides increase in Norway

In 2023 occurred 728 suicides in Norway. This year, 100 more people committed suicide than in 2022. In Norway, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Norway had 13.12 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.13 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 728 recorded suicide cases in 2023, 521 were men suicides and 207 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.64 per 100,000 men and for women 7.52 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Norway suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 40 homicides in Norway, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 18.2 suicides.
