Suicides increase in Namibia

In 2005 occurred 183 suicides in Namibia. This year, 1 more people committed suicide than in 2004.

Namibia had 9.37 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 183 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 145 were men suicides and 39 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.21 per 100,000 men and for women 3.83 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Namibia. However, in Namibia in 2005 there were there were 352 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 1.9 homicides per suicide.
