Number of suicides increases in Ireland

In 2007 around 458 suicides occurred in Ireland, 6 more than in 2006. In Ireland, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Ireland reported 10.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 458 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 362 were men suicides and 96 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.5 per 100,000 men and for women 4.4 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 78 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.9 suicides.
