Number of suicides falls in Ireland

In 2022 occurred 436 suicides in Ireland. This year, 13 fewer people committed suicide than in 2021. In Ireland, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Ireland had 8.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.13 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 436 recorded suicide cases in 2022, 346 were men suicides and 90 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.66 per 100,000 men and for women 3.45 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 44 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 9.9 suicides.
