Ireland had 8.96 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.18 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 449 recorded suicide cases in 2021, 359 were men suicides and 90 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.49 per 100,000 men and for women 3.54 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 23 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 19.5 suicides.
