India reported 17.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.
India is a country with a high rate of suicide.
Of the 199,715 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 108,202 were men suicides and 91,513 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.11 per 100,000 men and for women 16.42 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In India suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 45,095 homicides in India, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.4 suicides.
