Number of suicides unchanged in Iceland

In 2018 occurred 34 suicides in Iceland, the same people committed suicide than in 2017.

Iceland had 9.92 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.42 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 34 recorded suicide cases in 2018, 29 were men suicides and 5 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.65 per 100,000 men and for women 2.9 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Iceland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 3 homicides in Iceland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 11.3 suicides.
