Number of suicides falls in Georgia

In 2005 occurred 222 suicides in Georgia. This year, 33 fewer people committed suicide than in 2004.

Georgia had 5.04 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 222 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 176 were men suicides and 46 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.44 per 100,000 men and for women 1.98 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Georgia. However, in Georgia in 2005 there were there were 403 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.8 homicides per suicide.
