Suicides decreased in Estonia

In 2016 around 187 suicides occurred in Estonia, 16 less than in 2015.

Estonia reported 14.21 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.41 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 187 recorded suicide cases in 2016, 148 were men suicides and 39 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 24.14 per 100,000 men and for women 5.44 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 33 homicides in Estonia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.7 suicides.
