Dominican Republic - Intentional self-harm

In 2007 occurred 563 suicides in Dominican Republic. This year, 59 fewer people committed suicide than in 2006. In Dominican Republic, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Dominican Republic had 6.14 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 563 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 464 were men suicides and 99 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.73 per 100,000 men and for women 2.14 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Dominican Republic. However, in Dominican Republic in 2007 there were there were 2,111 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 3.7 homicides per suicide.
