Suicides fell in Costa Rica

By 2005, suicides in Costa Rica increased by 53 people to at 274 suicides

In Costa Rica there were 6.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 274 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 233 were men suicides and 41 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.9 per 100,000 men and for women 2 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Costa Rica. However, in Costa Rica in 2005 there were there were 335 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.2 homicides per suicide.
