In 2015 around 1,837 suicides occurred in Chile, 48 more than in 2014. In 2015, on average 5 Chileans committed suicide every day.

Chile reported 10.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.51 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,837 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 1,459 were men suicides and 378 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.5 per 100,000 men and for women 4.1 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 419 homicides in Chile, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.4 suicides.
