In 2021 around 1,571 suicides occurred in Chile, 31 less than in 2020. In 2021, on average 4 Chileans committed suicide every day.

Chile reported 8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.14 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,571 recorded suicide cases in 2021, 1,267 were men suicides and 304 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13 per 100,000 men and for women 3 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 906 homicides in Chile, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.7 suicides.
