In 2007 around 1,773 suicides occurred in Yemen, 82 more than in 2006. In 2007, on average 5 Yemenis committed suicide every day.
Yemen reported 8.15 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 1,773 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 1,182 were men suicides and 591 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.32 per 100,000 men and for women 5.28 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Yemen suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 850 homicides in Yemen, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.1 suicides.
