Number of suicides increases in Zambia

In 2015 around 1,038 suicides occurred in Zambia, 17 more than in 2014. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Zambia reported 6.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.51 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,038 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 799 were men suicides and 239 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.99 per 100,000 men and for women 2.9 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Zambia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 853 homicides in Zambia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.2 suicides.
