Number of suicides increases in Turkmenistan

In 2005 around 535 suicides occurred in Turkmenistan, 52 more than in 2004. In Turkmenistan, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Turkmenistan reported 10.96 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 535 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 432 were men suicides and 103 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.95 per 100,000 men and for women 4.16 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Turkmenistan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 206 homicides in Turkmenistan, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.6 suicides.
