In 2023 around 4,099 suicides occurred in Türkiye, 125 less than in 2022. In 2023, on average 11 Turks committed suicide every day.
Türkiye reported 4.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.13 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 4,099 recorded suicide cases in 2023, 3,090 were men suicides and 1,009 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.2 per 100,000 men and for women 2.3 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Türkiye suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 2,817 homicides in Türkiye, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.5 suicides.
