Number of suicides increases in Tunisia

In 2007 around 504 suicides occurred in Tunisia, 12 more than in 2006. In Tunisia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Tunisia reported 4.89 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 504 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 307 were men suicides and 197 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 5.81 per 100,000 men and for women 3.72 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Tunisia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 273 homicides in Tunisia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.8 suicides.
