Suicides decreased in Trinidad and Tobago

In 2005 around 137 suicides occurred in Trinidad and Tobago, 47 less than in 2004.

Trinidad and Tobago reported 10.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 137 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 109 were men suicides and 29 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.08 per 100,000 men and for women 4.12 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Trinidad and Tobago. However, in Trinidad and Tobago in 2005 there were there were 386 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.8 homicides per suicide.
