Number of suicides falls in Timor-Leste

In 2005 occurred 72 suicides in Timor-Leste. This year, 12 fewer people committed suicide than in 2004.

Timor-Leste had 7.28 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 72 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 48 were men suicides and 24 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.74 per 100,000 men and for women 5.1 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Timor-Leste suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 46 homicides in Timor-Leste, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.6 suicides.
