Suriname has a very high suicide rate

In 2007 occurred 134 suicides in Suriname. This year, 4 fewer people committed suicide than in 2006.

Suriname had 26.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Suriname has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 134 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 105 were men suicides and 29 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 39.5 per 100,000 men and for women 11.1 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Suriname suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 45 homicides in Suriname, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3 suicides.
