Number of suicides increases in Rwanda

In 2007 around 940 suicides occurred in Rwanda, 2 more than in 2006. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Rwanda reported 10.21 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 940 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 819 were men suicides and 121 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.82 per 100,000 men and for women 2.45 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Rwanda suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 268 homicides in Rwanda, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.5 suicides.
