Suicides increase in Rwanda

In 2015 occurred 992 suicides in Rwanda. This year, 16 more people committed suicide than in 2014. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Rwanda had 8.52 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.49 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 992 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 863 were men suicides and 129 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.23 per 100,000 men and for women 2.16 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Rwanda suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 293 homicides in Rwanda, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.4 suicides.
