Romania had 10.11 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.41 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 1,974 recorded suicide cases in 2016, 1,656 were men suicides and 318 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.37 per 100,000 men and for women 3.17 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 306 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6.5 suicides.
